~~here it is~~ FEMINIST SKILLJOYS, issue one! a zine about making stuff, available ONLINE NOW FOR FREE or~ in physical copy for trade or a couple bux (covering postage basically) just message me or email me~
A BIG THANKS TO: all the contributors to the zine (allison jean, olivia, dena, stacey-marie, r.b., fiona, lonna, rose l, hannah, and ethan) plus everyone doing the in person skillshare tomorrow and also kt for giving me printing tipzzz and letting me do the skillshare at the really really free market AND begrudgingly martin for thinking up the title pun
there is already so much more i am excited to include so i am definitely planning a second issue. you should email me if you have something to contribute! I AM ALSO planning a q&a section in the next issue so if you have questions about a specific craft or skill send me an email too and to the best of my ability i will see if i can find an expert to answer your query. ~~ batselke (at) bellsouth (dot) net ~~
(also the part where there are way too many pages of me talking is going to be fixed in the next issue, this is because this is a part of my term assignment — my ~praxis project~ — for my final women’s studies course. i feel like actually a lot of the goals are self-explanatory though so definitely future issues will be way more just about making stuff)

^^^ a zine I contributed to that is really awesome you guys if you can get your hands on a copy its worth it

libraryadventures:

A fare-well present made by Lonna. A zine that talks about all her favorite events and teens, plus the amazing staff she has come to know and love while working at Oconee County Library.

I only made two of these. One for the library to keep in their zine section and one for me. It’s like a best friend heart necklace where as long as we both have our zines- me and the library will be friends forever <3

Here are my zine page submissions for Katy’s skill share zine. I don’t have any fun skills but I have taught many resume classes to teens so I did tips for creating a sweet resume.NOTE: I used my future child’s name for the resume. People at work thought I was going crazy haha.

libraryadventures:

We are applying for an ALA award for Best Teen Program.

We are supposed to concentrate on one aspect of our programming that we have been highly focused on (for us this year it was zines) and how the program has benefited the community and hopes to create life-long readers. I am combining all of my zine programs into one larger “program” but I need a title! Can anyone think of anything?

It should be catchy or inspiring in some way. Something along the lines of “Teenage zinesters finding their voice through zine literature” but much shorter and more official sounding…

Any ideas????????????

Today I got a donation of 12 zines from JANE in the mail and it had the sweetest note attached.. it said: “Dear Lonna! Here are some zines from my distro! It’s so cool you are starting a zine library in Athens! Also, all your photos from the library shows are magical! Way to be an inspiring librarian! <3<3<3 Jane Applesauce” and it was all decorated with pretty stamps and feathers.

ZINES!

Does anyone located in Athens who I haven’t already contacted have any interest in reading some zines for the library?

I am starting a zine collection but the most time consuming part (which is really difficult to do on the clock bc of patrons) is reading the zines for content. So, we need volunteers who are interested in having zines in the community! You can pick the zines you want to read. I have a bunch of political-ish zines, tons of music zines, art zines and more.

And basically I will give you a list of things to comment on to evaluate the language and content for age appropriateness. The zines will be located in the teen section and we have to make sure no parents will be upset, keeping the zines at a “pg-13” kind of level.

Let me know if you are interested! The more the better!!!
<3<3<3
PS: If you are a zine writer and would like to donate your zine to our collection, I would be so very excited!

P-I-X FEST! summer camp for punks

So, Aki and I were talking about how pixfest is like summer camp for punks and so we are gonna make a collaborative zine together called summer camp or summer camp for punks or punk camp or some variation of SUMMER CAMP where we get people to write interesting thoughts/stories about their experiences at pixfest and what pix means to them and then add tons of pictures and all kinds of fun stuff. Also a collaborative art page where someone draws something and then the next person adds to it and so on. If you have any other ideas to include, tell me!

Let us know if you want to write a page or draw a picture or do something for it!

♞ my zine: pony grave ♘

the premier issue of my first ever zine PONY GRAVE is now available!!♞♘♞♘♞♘♞♘♞♘♞♘♞♘♞♘♞♘♞♘♞♘♞♘

it’s 18 pages, black and white. includes writing from my diary, comics and collages i’ve made, poetry by friends, and more.

so now you are wondering, how do i buy it?

my paypal is ghostmonster@gmail.com

all you have to do is pay pal me $1 or $2 and include your address!

this zine was inspired by my favorite zine DORIS. it’s not anywhere near as incredible as DORIS, (or as selfless) but if you like doris, there’s a chance you may like this zine. or if you enjoy my art/blog/me as a person, you will most definitely enjoy this zine!

i created this zine during the month of march 2012, but issue date is marked for april, since i figured it would take me a while to get around to distributing it to the world.

SPECIAL NOTE: tumblr user xlbacondoublecheeseburger finished a zine this month too & she made a really cute video advertising it, so the idea for the video i made above was stolen/borrowed from her.

also: the video says the wrong amount of pages, the name of the zine incorrectly, and i sound really dumb, oops.

**: if you know me in athens and would like one, just let me know. or if you are someone who has sent me things in the mail before, just let me know! no charge for good friends/pen pals

Zine that has a lot of pictures I took and a lot of stories im in… one of my favorite parts is when Dena and me are in Illinois together and Dena says that she really wants some candy and Lonna really wants some wine so Dena bought two bags of candy and Lonna bought two bottles of wine. Good stuff.

Allison Jean is releasing a collaborative zine at Fluke with short stories written by her and each one is illustrated by various folks. My story is a secret (you gotta get the zine!) but with Ali’s permission… here are a couple of my most awful drawing rejects. They are pretty terrible/hilarious. Grrrr mouths are hard to draw for realz.
